Camel Puzzle

You have 3,000 bananas that must be transported across a desert that is 1,000 kilometers wide. You have a camel that has a 1,000 banana capacity. However, the camel must eat one banana for each kilometer that it walks.

What is the largest number of bananas that can be transported across the desert?

i made the camel walk 1 km drop its load and then come bak pick the nxt thousand and drop it after 1km

so for 1st 1000 dates : camel requires 2dates ( to and fro)

nxt 1000 dates : 2dates
and last 1000 only 1 date required
no need to come back

so the camel can travel 1km using 5 dates.

after travelling 200kms u will lose 1000 dates (200*5), so for the nxt each kilometre camel requires only 3 dates. so in that way using 999 dates u can reach 533 kms( 333 + 200).

now u hav 1001 dates left with u,leave that 1 date there and go the remaining distance
u can take 533 to other side

hope i hav made it clear..

i dont know whether it can b further optimized. mebbe someone could figure sthing more than 533 ..so not sure whether it is answer
